Gerald Papazian of Lake Ann has been appointed to the Michigan Board of Counseling by Gov. Rick Snyder.
The 11-member board helps the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs in overseeing the practice of more than 8,800 counselors in Michigan. Papazian will represent professionals primarily engaged in providing counseling techniques, behavior modification techniqes or preventative techniques to clients.
Papazian is owner of Northern Woods Counseling and Consulting and serves as an at-risk counselor for Elk Rapids Senior High School. He previously worked for Benzie County Central Schools.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan recently received Traverse City State Bank's "Caught Thriving Award."
The award is given to a business or community organization that has positively and significantly impacted the community. Big Brothers Big Sisters was selected for the honor because of its commitment to provide adult mentors to more than 300 area children ages 6 to 18 and to support those relationships over years.
