TRAVERSE CITY — The Dennos Museum in partnership with Northwestern Michigan College Student Life, Interlochen Center for the Arts and Traverse City High School will present a collaborative exhibition as part of the “Embrace the Dream” series inspired by the values of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Designed as part of an “intermester” class at Interlochen, the comparative arts department worked with Traverse City High School students to develop a variety of visual, written and performance art around the theme “What is Home?” The exhibit will open with a free reception from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 16, at the Dennos Museum, 1410 College Dr., where it will be on display through Jan. 20.

Day for women
BENZONIA — Women on Their Way (WOW) will host a day of inspiration, empowerment and discovery for all women.
The free event will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Jan. 18, at the Tribal Center Building on Hoadley Road. The Rev. Barbara Fay from Frankfort and Elberta Methodist Churches will be the keynote speaker. Roundtable discussions will focus on career, relationships, resources, values and finding your strengths. Lunch is included. Representatives from the Women’s Resource Center, Grow Benzie, Northwestern Michigan College, Michigan Works, WOW and Benzie Area Christian Neighbors also will be on hand.

TRAVERSE CITY — Local law enforcement and local firefighters/EMS will face off on the ice to help a local family.
The Dunklow family’s 17-month-old son, Draven, was recently diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rapidly developing eye cancer which requires chemotherapy at DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. Funds raised will help the family with expenses.
The “Guns-N-Hoses” event will be held Jan. 18 at Centre Ice Arena, 1600 Chartwell Dr. A silent auction at 7:30 p.m. will be followed by the hockey game at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $5 each; additional donations are welcome.
