---- — The British medical journal “The Lancet-Neurology” recently published research about collaborative efforts to improve stroke care at Munson Medical Center and 23 other hospitals around Michigan through a stroke study from 2008-10.

Munson and the other hospitals participated in the “Increasing Stroke Treatment through Interventional Change Tactics” (INSTINCT) study.

All hospitals were in the lower peninsula and were chosen at random from among hospitals with at least 100 stroke discharges per year.

All hospitals that participated stayed in the trial until data collection ended in 2010.

Munson also was recently designated a primary stroke center by The Joint Commission and also recognized by the Michigan Stroke Registry Quality Improvement program for its efforts on stroke care.

The Northern Michigan Association of Health Underwriters, a 501C6 nonprofit serving insurance agents in northern Michigan and providing actions to support the community, has teamed with the Goodwill Inn to help the homeless and provide the Inn with additional revenue in 2013.

NMAHU recently presented a check for $500 to Goodwill Inn representatives. It also donated undergarments for the Goodwill Inn’s undergarment pantry and donated food provided by The Dish Restaurant and Harbor 22 Restaurant.
