---- — WASHINGTON, Pa. — Washington scored three runs in the first inning and four pitchers held the Traverse City Beach Bums to three hits as the Wild Things posted a 4-2 Frontier League win Friday night.
Chris Smith (5-3) went six innings, allowing two runs on three hits, to gain the win. Three relievers held the Beach Bums hitless over the final three innings.
Ryan Still scored both Traverse City runs. He scored on an error in the first and on a Jeff Flagg single in the third.
In the first, Still singled and Jose Vargas walked. Chase Burch then bounced to the mound. Smith went to second, but Tanner Leighton couldn't handle the throw, allowing Still to scamper in.
In the third, Still walked, stole second and then came in on Flagg's hit.
Still, Flagg and Marcus Nidiffer had Traverse City's hits.
Brooks Belter suffered the loss. He allowed four runs on three hits in six innings. Belter was plagued by wildness, walking five. Nick Capito tossed two perfect innings in relief.
Shain Stoner's two-run single in the first ignited the Wild Things. Belter (6-1) walked three in the frame and also threw a wild pitch and had a balk.
He finished strong, however, retiring the final eight batters he faced.
The two teams meet again tonight with Scott Dunn starting for Traverse City and Casey Barnes for Washington.
