Burch back for Bums

Power hitter was 2nd in MVP voting

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City's lineup just got a lot more pop.

The Beach Bums announced they re-signed power-hitting first baseman Chase Burch for the upcoming season, his third in a TC uniform.

In two seasons with the Beach Bums, Burch has re-written the record books hitting .280 with 36 home runs and 143 RBIs in 182 games. Last season, he hit .260 with 17 homers and 55 driven in. A patient hitter at the plate, Burch has more walks (135) than strikeouts (122) in his Traverse City tenure.

In 2010, Chase hit .299, tied for the league RBI lead with 88 and finished third with 19 homers. His 77 walks led the Frontier League and gave him a .436 on-base percentage, placing him second.

Last year, he hit .394 with nine homers and 18 RBIs in the final 18 games of the season. In 2010, he finished the season with an eye-popping .336 average over the final five weeks with 10 homers and 35 RBIs. He was second in league MVP voting.

The Bums open the season on the road May 17 at Florence, returning for their home opener May 25 against Windy City.
