Bums sweep Rippers

Burch becomes team's all-time hits leader

From Staff Reports

TRAVERSE CITY — Chase Burch set a milestone on Monday and helped his Traverse City Beach Bums complete a three-game sweep of London with a 4-1 win.

Burch connected on his 218th hit as a Beach Bum in the third inning to break Steve Young's previous mark. It also scored Ryan Still to give Traverse City a 1-0 lead, one it wouldn't give up.

In the fifth inning, Burch made it 2-0 Bums when he hit another RBI single to score Still. Kyle Eveland added an RBI in the sixth inning for a 3-0 edge.

London scored a run in the seventh inning when Jim Vahlik came home on a pass ball. The Beach Bums, however, answered again in the bottom of the frame when Jose Vargas scored on a Kyle Colligan double.

Brooks Belter moved his record to 4-0 with six shutout innings with four hits. He didn't give up a walk and struck out five. Scott Mueller collected his ninth save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning.

The win keeps the Beach Bums with the best record in the Frontier League and was their eighth win in the last 10 games.

Traverse City has an off day today before hosting Washington for three games beginning on Wednesday. Jacob Clem (2-3) will look to even his record by getting the start for Traverse City.
