Bums blanked, 4-0

Clem allows just one earned run in loss

CRESTWOOD, Ill. — For the second consecutive night, the Traverse City Beach Bums were handcuffed at the plate in a shutout loss.

Steve Sauer and Andy Mee combined on a seven-hitter, striking out 10, as Windy City blanked the Beach Bums 4-0 in a Frontier League game here Friday night.

Traverse City was shut out on two hits Thursday.

Windy City scored three runs with two outs in the third to take charge. The Thunderbolts loaded the bases on an error, a hit batter and a walk. Chad Cregar then singled in two runs. It was Windy City's only hit in the frame. A double steal accounted for the third run.

Cregar belted a solo home run in the sixth for the Thunderbolts final run.

Windy City finished with just three hits. Jacob Clem (2-3) was the tough-luck loser, allowing only one earned run in seven innings. Sauer (4-1) also worked seven innings, giving up the seven hits to Traverse City. Brian Heere and Kyle Colligan paced the Beach Bums attack with two hits apiece.

The Beach Bums, who were 4-2 on the road trip, return home for a six-game homestand that starts tonight against the London Rippers. Reid Kelly (3-1, 3.58) will get the start for Traverse City, Sheng-An Kuo (0-3, 3.26) for the Rippers.
