MARION, Ill. — The Southern Illinois Miners were able to dig up some luck against Traverse City’s bullpen in an 8-4 victory Thursday.
The win gave Southern Illinois a series win and dropped the Beach Bums to 6-6 on the season.
Scott Dunn pitched six innings, giving up two runs and striking out four. He walked one and surrendered five hits.
Scott Mueller was hit for five runs in 1.1 frames and Matt Miller gave up a run while recording two outs.
Miners starter Ryan Sullivan struck out nine in 6.1 innings.
Taylor Wrenn and Marcus Nidiffer each had three hits on the night. Andrew Cohn added two hits.
Ryan Still was hit by a pitch to open the game, and Wrenn brought him home on a ground-rule double. Wrenn would come around on a Sean Gusrang groundout for the first of two Gusrang RBIs in the game.
The Beach Bums travel to Gateway (9-3) to start a three-game series.
