Bums lose to Rascals

Rascals go for series sweep today against Traverse City

O'FALLON, Mo. — Offense was the name of the game on Wednesday.

River City hit three home runs to beat the Traverse City Beach Bums 12-9.

The Rascals (10-1) will go for the three-game sweep today.

Traverse City jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Marcus Nidiffer and Ryan Still scored. But River City came right back in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-2 lead off home runs from Charlie Lisk and Chris Andreas.

The Beach Bums trailed 8-5 after four innings, but took a 9-8 lead with a number of RBI singles.

In the bottom of the inning, River City responded. With two outs, Jason Patton blasted a grand slam for a 12-9 lead which the Rascals wouldn't relinquish.

Andreas finished with three hits while Patton and Lisk each had two. For Traverse City, Brian Heere had three hits while Kyle Colligan and Jeff Flagg each had two.

Doug Shields got the win for River City with three innings of relief. Dustin Umberger pitched the ninth inning with two strikeouts to record his fifth save.

Matt Miller took the loss for the Beach Bums with four earned runs in 1.1 innings of relief.
