Lake Erie ties series with Bums


AVON, Ohio — Traverse City’s Frontier League playoff series will be coming back to town all knotted up at a game apiece.

Lake Erie evened the series with a 5-1 victory Sunday night.

Matt Rein and Jordan Wellander shut down the Beach Bums’ offense, holding TC to just three hits.

Marcus Nidiffer led off the sixth inning with a solo homer to put Traverse City’s only run on the board.

For the Crushers, second baseman Max Caspar was 4 for 4, right fielder Daniel Bowman had three hits and third baseman Andrew Davis and designated hitter Anderson Hidalgo each had a pair of hits.

Johnny Omahen took the loss, givign up four runs in 5.1 innings. Chris Squires, Burny Mitchem and Nick Capito combined for 2.2 frames, allowing only one run charged to Mitchem in the seventh.

Traverse City’s hits came from Nidiffer, Jose Vargas and Zach Kometani.
