Beach Bums drop sixth straight game

O'FALLON, Mo. — Traverse City dropped its sixth straight game on Thursday as River City completed a three-game sweep of the Beach Bums, 8-5.

With the game tied 4-4 in the sixth inning, the Rascals scored four times to go ahead for good.

Kyle Teague (2-4) took the loss for Traverse City, allowing four runs on three hits in one-third of an inning. Matt Miller came on to finish the game and held River City scoreless over the last 3.3 innings, but the Beach Bums couldn't make up the difference.

Scott Dunn started for Traverse City. Coming off his first loss of the season, Dunn allowed four runs on 10 hits in five innings.

Danny Canela went 3-for-4, including an RBI single in the sixth for River City. Five other River City hitters collected multiple hits as the Rascals roughed up Traverse City pitching with 16 hits.

Chandler Jagodzinski (2-1) got the win in relief for River City. He worked 3.2 innings out of the bullpen and allowed one run and two hits after starter Tommy Mendoza allowed four runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings.

Jose Vargas had a big night at the plate for Traverse City, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Vargas slugged his 12th homer of the year — a two-run jack that put the Beach Bums ahead 2-0 in the first inning. Vargas also hit a sacrifice fly that scored Carlo Testa in the fifth.

The Beach Bums, who have fallen three games behind in the East Division, return to Wuerfel Park for the final time tonight to start a nine-game home stand. The Beach Bums face Normal, Washington and Joliet during that stretch.
