Bums strike Thunderbolts

CRESTWOOD, Ill. — The Traverse City Beach Bums snapped a three-game losing streak with the help of an explosive offense as they pounded the Windy City ThunderBolts on Friday 11-5 at Standard Bank Stadium.

Trailing 1-0 after one inning, Traverse City took control of the game with a four-run second inning. The highlight was a two-run double off the bat of Jose Vargas.

A two-run single by Zach Kometani and a three-run home run by Marcus Nidiffer helped the Beach Bums score five runs in the fifth. The Beach Bums (26-17) had three hits in the inning.

Nidiffer racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Beach Bums.

Evan Button had three extra-base hits for the ThunderBolts. He homered in the fourth inning, singled in the fifth inning, and doubled in the second and seventh innings.

Scott Dunn got the win, running his season record to 9-0. He allowed three runs over five innings. He struck out four, walked four and surrendered eight hits.

Brian Oliver ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision for the ThunderBolts (17-27). The loss was Oliver’s first of the year. He allowed nine runs in 4.2 innings, walked four and struck out five.
