TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Beach Bums right-hander Casey Delgado has been named the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week.
Delgado posted a 1-0 record this past week in two starts, not allowing an earned run in the process. He struck out 12 and walked only one while scattering three hits.
On Sunday against Lake Erie, he turned in seven innings and retired the first 19 batters he faced, walking one and allowing one hit, earning the victory in a 1-0 Beach Bums win.
Wednesday, Delgado tossed six innings, surrendering two unearned runs while striking out six against Evansville.
His 43 strikeouts rank Delgado second in the Frontier League. He is fourth with 47.1 innings pitched and 14th in ERA at 2.64. He has walked just nine and opponents are hitting .175 against the 24-year old.
BUMS ADD INFIELDER: Traverse City’s search for stability at shortstop continues as the team signed Josh Miller on Monday.
The Beach Bums released shortstop Denver Chavez in a corresponding move.
TC starting shortstop Taylor Wrenn retired June 19.
Miller has played part of two seasons of minor-league baseball. He was 0 for 3 in a brief stint with the Amarillo Sox of the American Association before hitting .256 with a homer and eight RBIs in 22 games for the Sox this year.
He played collegiately at San Francisco University, where he hit .235 with a home run, 18 RBIs, 16 runs, 16 walks and 10 sacrifices in 53 games.
Chavez was 0 for 10 with an error in four games.
