O’FALLEN, Mo. — Clinging to a 3-2 lead entering the bottom of the eighth inning, River City erupted for three runs and took a 6-2 victory over Traverse City on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.
The Rascals’ three late runs came off Beach Bums’ reliever Will Rankin, who threw the final 1.2 innings. Between Rankin and Ian MacDougall, Traverse’s City’s bullpen allowed four of the six River City runs. Only three of River City’s runs were earned.
Starter Tanner Tripp took the loss. Over five innings, Tripp gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out one. Ethan Carter got the win for River City (17-9), allowing only three hits in six innings. The Beach Bums (11-16) did collect six more hits in the final three innings off the Rascals’ bullpen.
Jake Rhodes went 2 for 4 and drove in both of Traverse City’s runs. Jeff DeBlieux doubled among two hits, and Kevin Taylor and Rob Benedict also had a pair of hits for the Beach Bums.
On Saturday the Beach Bums also lost by a 6-2 score. River City jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning and never trailed after that.
Alex Phillips (0-1) took the loss for Traverse City. He gave up 12 hits in 5.2 innings.
DeBlieux went 2 for 5, both were doubles, Casey Roche also had a double, while going 2 for 4 with an RBI. Yazy Arbelo went 2 for 3 and Chris Cowell had an RBI.
