TRAVERSE CITY — No extra innings were needed on Thursday night at Wuerfel Park.
After splitting the first two games of the series with 11 inning contests, Traverse City took the rubber match with Windy City with a 3-2 victory.
The win moves the Beach Bums to a league-best 44-25 and 4.5 games in front of Southern Illinois for the East Division lead.
In Thursday's win, Kurt Wunderlich made his Traverse City debut and threw a gem. He went seven innings with three hits allowed, one earned run, a walk and five strikeouts.
Matt Miller pitched the final two innings to collect his fifth save.
Chase Burch added two hits along with Brian Heere and Marcus Nidiffer. Heere and Kyle Colligan also stole a base.
Brooks Belter will take the mound today for the Beach Bums, looking to add to his 8-1 record. First pitch at Wuerfel Park is at 7:05 p.m.
