Beach Bums sweep Normal

TRAVERSE CITY — Brooks Belter kept his record perfect for the season, and the Traverse City Beach Bums remained undefeated for the season against Normal by completing a series sweep 3-1 Thursday.

Belter (6-0, 2.88) allowed just one run in six innings on four hits and two walks. He struck out five.

Jeff Flagg drove in Ryan Still in the first with an RBI single, and Kyle Colligan's sacrifice fly scored Jose Vargas in the third.

Vargas, who tripled to lead off the third, led off the eighth with a solo home run. That blast was his league-leading 16th of the year — already eclipsing his season total of 14 from a year ago — and his ninth homer in the last nine contests.

Nick Capito — who was added to the All-Star Game roster earlier in the day — struck out four in 2.1 innings of work before Scott Mueller came on to record his 11th save of the season by retiring both batters he faced.

Normal's Tyler Stovall went seven solid innings, giving up two runs and striking out seven. He walked four.

Normal manager Chad Parker was ejected in the bottom of the third by umpire Bruce Doan for arguing balls and strikes.
