TRAVERSE CITY — Evansville hit the road with a win on Sunday, thanks to a 5-1 victory over Traverse City at Wuerfel Park.
The Beach Bums (13-8) were looking for a weekend sweep.
Traverse City took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Kyle Eveland drew a bases-loaded walk to score Chase Burch.
Evansville tied the game in the third inning when Alex Foltz scored on a Luis Parache single. Then in the seventh, the Otters took a 2-1 lead when DeAngelo Mack scored off an error.
In the ninth inning, Evansville added three insurance runs off a solo homer from Brett Chamberlain and a two-run shot from Matt Sheely.
The Beach Bums only tallied four hits on the night. Jose Vargas accounted for two while Brian Heere doubled. Parache had three hits for the Otters.
Sam Brown took the loss for Traverse City in relief of Brooks Belter, who had allowed one run on three hits in five innings. Brown gave up two hits and in two innings of work.
Traverse City hits the road for a three-game series at East Division-leading Southern Illinois beginning today. Evansville travels to Normal.
On Saturday, the Beach Bums beat the Otters 11-5, thanks to six runs in the final two innings. Vargas had three hits and four RBIs while Jeff Flagg had three hits and three RBIs. Nick Capito got the win in relief.
