---- — JOLIET, Ill. — Traverse City was held to just five hits on Thursday as Joliet finished the series with a 4-1 win over the Beach Bums.
Traverse City (4-2) scored its lone run in the ninth inning when Chase Burch led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Jeff Flagg fielder's choice to make it 4-1.
Brian Heere had two hits for the Beach Bums while Kyle Eveland and Kyle Colligan also had singles in the loss.
Bennett Whitmore took the loss for the Bums with six hits, one earned run, three walks and three strikeouts in seven innings of work. Matt Miller fanned two while pitching the eighth inning.
Joliet scored a run in the first inning, another one in the third and two more in the fifth inning. Former Beach Bum Kyle Maunus doubled in the fifth to score Erik Lis.
Slammers pitcher Steven Maxwell got the win in seven innings with 10 strikeouts and just three hits allowed.
Traverse City comes to Wuerfel Park for the home opener today against Windy City. The Beach Bums will throw Brooks Belter. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
