TRAVERSE CITY — Beach Bums manager Gregg Langbehn gets to select the last three players to the East Division All-Star team.
There won't be too many of his Traverse City players to choose from for those spots.
The Beach Bums will have nine representatives at the June 11 Frontier League All-Star Game at Normal, Ill.
Those nine — not including Langbehn — set a new league record for the most All-Stars, eclipsing Southern Illinois' mark of eight in 2010.
Traverse City has three starters, three reserves and a trio of pitchers on the team.
Ryan Still — who leads the league in walsk (45) and on-base percentage (.563) as of Tuesday — will start at second base, while outfielders Jeff Flagg and Brian Heere also were voted starters.
Flagg, who is second in the league in homers (12) and sixth in RBIs (40) was the top vote-getter among East outfielders, while Heere is hitting .300 with 26 RBIs and 10 doubles.
First baseman Chase Burch (.304, 35 RBIs), catcher Marcus Nidiffer (.257) and third baseman Jose Vargas — who leads the league in homers (14) and RBIs (48) — are reserves.
Reid Kelly, Scott Mueller and Jacob Clem are all on the pitching staff. Kelly is tied for the league lead in wins with a 6-1 record and is on the Frontier League leaderboard in ERA at 2.77 (10th) and strikeouts with 53 (third).
Clem has been at or near the top of the ERA leaderboard for the majority of the season and is currently 3-3 with a 2.98 ERA.
Mueller is the Beach Bums all-time saves leader with 45 and is currently second in the league with 10 this season. This is the third All-Star appearance for Mueller, who also represented Traverse City in 2010 and 2011.
