Ypsilanti shuts down Bums' bats

Former Beach Bum Haldis starts for Sliders in 5-2 win

FROM STAFF REPORTS

TRAVERSE CITY -- Jon Haldis looked like he was at home back in Wuerfel Park.

The former Traverse City Beach Bums pitcher started and threw two hitless innings before giving way to Ypsilanti Sliders teammate Adam Dominick in a 5-2 win over Traverse City.

The two combined to keep the Beach Bums hitless into the fifth inning.

Dominick went the rest of the way, tossing seven innings in relief and giving up just four hits and two runs.

Brian Lapin ended the perfect-game bid with a two-out single in the fifth and came around to score on a Robby Alcombrack triple.

Mike Epping led off the ninth with a solo home run for TC's only other run.

Jason Kiley (6-8) took the loss for the Bums, giving up eight hits and five earned runs in 41/3 innings of work. Jared Locke threw 22/3 innings of scoreless relief, and Nick Pepper added two frames of scoreless ball.

The Sliders had 10 hits, led by two from Clay McCord, Robbie Knapp, Josh Brodin and Lee Rubin.

NOTES: Tickets to the rest of the Ypsilanti series are discounted to $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
