Gateway topples Traverse City

Alonso keeps up hot hitting streak with two homers

SAUGET, Ill. -- Charlie Lisk and Brandon Johnson drove in three runs each for Gateway in a 9-7 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums.

John Alonso hit two home runs and drove in three for the Beach Bums, a night after he hit for the cycle.

Andrew Franco and Mike Victor also hit homers for TC (37-44), driving in two runs each. Gateway improves to 33-47.

Franco had a 3-for-4 night, as did Alonso.

Traverse City starter Kevin Reese was touched up for four earned runs in six innings, striking out six and giving up eight hits.

Reliever Jared Locke (0-3) was tagged for four runs -- three earned -- while not recording an out.

Gateway's Collin Brennan (2-0) earned the win in relief of starter Nathan Melek.
