TRAVERSE CITY -- River City picked up a 6-3 Frontier League win over Traverse City Sunday to take the weekend series.
The Rascals (43-34) entered the ninth inning tied at 3-3 with the Beach Bums (35-43), but scored three runs to take the lead. Scott Houin had an RBI shot off Traverse City starter David Nathanson, who was pulled after the hit. JoJo Batten later connected on a two-RBI double off reliever B.J. Hagen to complete the scoring.
Traverse City trailed 3-1 in the sixth when Mike Epping tied it up on a two-run triple. He brought home Brian Lapin and Brandon McArthur on the play.
The other run for the Beach Bums came in the fourth inning when Lapin brought home Andrew Barbaro on a single.
Mike Victor had two hits in the game for Traverse City.
Nathanson suffered the loss after giving up six earned runs off 12 hits. He fanned three to fall to 5-9 on the year.
River City's Tony Marsala worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning to get the win, which was his first of the season. Jason Lowery picked up his 18th save of the year.
