TRAVERSE CITY -- Five Traverse City Beach Bums players have been voted into the Frontier League All-Star Game.
Beach Bums starting pitcher David Nathanson was the only unanimous choice from the East Division in the voting by managers, coaches and media.
Nathanson is 7-1 with a 2.24 earned run average this season. He leads the league in wins and is second in ERA.
Fellow TC hurler Ryan Gehring (3-3, 3.28) also made the staff. Gehring leads the league with two shutouts and is tied for the lead with two complete games.
The All-Star Game will be played at Wuerfel Park in Traverse City on July 16.
Traverse City also has three hitters in the game -- three of the four East outfielders -- as Mike Goetz, Mike Epping and Jake Whitesides will take their home field in All-Star jerseys.
Goetz leads the league in hitting (.377 prior to Thursday's doubleheader), Epping is tied with Kalamazoo's Joe Ramos atop the stolen base leaders (20) and Whitesides tops all hitters in RBIs (40).
Whitesides -- who normally is TC's designated hitter and has played only one game in the outfield this season -- is hitting .292 with a team-high six home runs, while Epping is batting .312 with five homers. Goetz is second in the league with a .465 on-base percentage.
Managers for the game will be determined by which two clubs are in first place in their respective divisions following play on July 6.
The two managers will each announce three additional player selections to complete their 24-man roster -- as well as coaching selections -- on July 7.
One of the three East additions will be a Midwest Sliders player, as each team in the league must be represented by at least one player in the All-Star Game.
