Bums fall short against Lake Erie

AVON, Ohio -- Traverse City suffered its second straight loss to Lake Erie Sunday as the Beach Bums dropped a 4-1 Frontier League decision.

On Saturday night, the Crushers (20-15) beat Traverse City (17-18) 5-4.

In Sunday's win, Lake Erie broke a 1-1 standstill in the bottom of the sixth with three runs. Andrew Davis tripled while Tim Binkoski and Wanye Bond each had triples to highlight the frame.

Lake Erie led 1-0 in the first inning after Jodam Rivera led off with a single and later scored on an error.

The Beach Bums tied things in the third inning when Mike Epping doubled and came home on a Al Barbato ground-rule double.

David Nathanson took the loss for Traverse City with five hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts. B.J. Hagen and Ryan Kruszka pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

Paul Fagan earned the win for the Curshers with nine strikeouts in six innings of work.

Barbato had two hits for the Beach Bums and a walk while Brad Stafford had a pair of hits.

TC first baseman John Alonso and hitting coach J.T. Tamargo were tossed in the first inning.

The two teams will meet again today to wrap up the series. Brett Bostelman will look to move to 6-0 on the season for the Beach Bums.
