Wild Things sneak past Bums

Teams combine for six hits in pitchers' duel

TRAVERSE CITY -- Washington posted a run in the seventh and eighth innings Thursday for a 2-1 win over Traverse City.

The Beach Bums (16-16) took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Robby Alcombrack reached on an error and later scored on a sacrifice bunt from Scott Billak.

The Wild Things (14-18) tied the game in the seventh when Matt Sutton hit a solo home run over the center field wall at Wuerfel Park. Then in the eighth, Kris Rochelle doubled and came home on an error.

Jason Kiley took the loss for the Bums despite a strong outing. He gave up four hits with five strikeouts and a walk in eight innings and had a stretch of 13 consecutive retired batters.

Jason Neitz pitched the complete game for Washington with two hits allowed.

John Alonso had the other hit for Traverse City.

Sutton finished with two hits for Washington

The two teams will play in the series finale today at Wuerfel Park starting at 7:05 p.m.
