Bums trounce Florence

FROM STAFF REPORTS

TRAVERSE CITY -- It was halfway evil.

All the way, if you're a Florence Freedom fan.

The boxscore read 333 for the Traverse City Beach Bums through three innings, as the Bums scored a trio of runs in each of the game's first three innings en route to an 11-3 rout of Florence.

The Beach Bums got off to a running start in the first inning, as Corey Whiting walked and stole second. James Guerrero followed with a walk and the two pulled off a double steal, with Whiting coming in on an error.

Mike Epping singled to drive in the first of his five RBIs for the night, then stole second and came in on Brian Lapin's RBI single.

TC pulled off another double steal in the second -- this time with Brad Miller and Whiting. Epping singled in Whiting and Guerrero swiped home. Mike Victor singled to left to plate Epping.

Miller singled in Kyle Maunus in the third, Guerrero doubled in Miller and Epping drove in a run for the third straight inning with his double down the right-field line to bring in Guerrero.

The Beach Bums tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh inning when Epping brought Whiting and Robby Alcombrack home.

Lefty Shawn Joy earned the win with five innings of work, striking out six and giving up six hits and three earned runs.

B.J. Hagen worked two scoreless innings of relief, followed by an inning each by Ryan Kruska and Greg Ford.

Brett Bostelman, second in the Frontier League in ERA at 1.30, takes the mound tonight as TC opens a three-game set with Washington.
