Late Bums: Wild Things take 2 of 3

Bums score 26 runs in series, but only win once

FROM STAFF REPORTS

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington Wild Things took the rubber game of the series, downing Traverse City 13-9 Saturday night.

The Beach Bums equaled a franchise record in the loss, hitting four home runs. Two came from Mike Victor, matching Jake Whitesides and Brad Vericker as the only TC players with multi-homer games.

The Beach Bums' bats scored 26 runs in the series, but Washington countered with 34.

The Wild Things (10-17) chased Jason Kiley after two and two-thirds innings, scoring six times in the third frame.

Victor homered in the second for the Bums (14-13) and James Geurrero drove in his first run of the season with a single in the third. Guerrero had gone 79 at-bats without an RBI.

Kyle Maunus added an RBI single in the fourth to pull TC within 6-3, but Washington rallied for four runs off Kyle Touchatt to open a 10-3 advantage.

Victor hit his second bomb of the game in the sixth, but again the Wild Things countered, scoring two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Brad Miller led off the seventh with a homer. Victor then drew a bases-loaded walk for a 12-6 game.

The Bums added three runs in the eighth to make it 13-9. Robby Alcombrack led the inning off with a homer, the team's fourth of the game. The last time Traverse City hit four in a game was Aug. 21, 2006, against River City. Mike Epping drove in two runs in the with a single later in the frame.
