WASHINGTON, Penn. -- Traverse City evened the three-game series Friday with a 9-5 win over host Washington.
The Beach Bums overcame a fourth-inning rain delay that lasted over an hour.
When play resumed, Traverse City brought in reliever David Hurst, who replaced starter Brett Bostelman in a no decision outing.
Washington threatened in the eighth inning with a run to make it a 6-5 game. Traverse City brought in closer Jeff Williams with a runner on second base and only one out, but he got out of the jam with a strikeout and a pop-up.
The Beach Bums added three more runs in the ninth. Two came off of sacrifice flies while Kyle Maunus scored Brian Lapin on an RBI double.
Williams came back in the bottom of the ninth to get the Wild Things 1-2-3 for his league-leading seventh save of the season.
Hurst was credited with the win to move to 2-0.
Washington led off with a solo homer in the first inning, but Traverse City came back on Patrick Perry's two-RBI hit in the second for a 2-1 lead.
In the fifth inning Mike Epping had a two-run homer, scoring James Guerrero for a 5-2 Bums lead. It was Epping's second of the season and gave his a team-best 20 RBIs.
