AVON, Ohio -- Traverse City pitcher David Nathanson secured his first victory of the season as the Beach Bums beat Lake Erie 6-2 in a Tuesday day game.
Nathanson had an 0-4 record to start the season for the Bums (12-11), but got the win Tuesday. He went seven innings with two earned runs off eight hits with three strikeouts.
Jared Locke pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning while Jeff Williams took the mound in the ninth in a non-save situation.
Lake Erie starter Kevin Skogley took a no-hitter into the seventh inning.
James Guerrero led off the seventh for Traverse City with a walk, Mike Epping got on base with an error and John Alonso scored Guerrero on an RBI grounder. Brian Lapin then broke up the no-hitter with an RBI single and a 2-1 TC lead.
Lake Erie made it 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, but the Beach Bums tallied three runs in the eighth. Mike Victor scored on an error while Patrick Perry had a two-RBI double.
In the ninth inning, Kyle Maunus scored on Victor's sacrifice fly.
Gordon Gronkowski, Tim Binkoski and Arden McWilliams each had two hits for the Crushers. McWilliams had a solo home run in the second inning.
Traverse City played strong defense and finished the game with three double plays.
The series will be on the line today when the two teams battle at 7:05 p.m. Kevin Reese will look for his third win this year for Traverse City while 2-0 Brent Lysander will go for Lake Erie.
