TRAVERSE CITY -- Five up, five down for Brett Bostelman.
The Traverse City right-hander improved to 5-0 Sunday evening, pitching the Beach Bums to a 4-2 Frontier League win over the Midwest Sliders.
The victory ended a six-game homestand for the Beach Bums, who won two of the three games in the series with the Sliders. Midwest won Saturday night 11-3.
Bostelman made sure the losing streak stopped at one.
He pitched into the eighth inning before departing. Bostelman allowed two runs on eight hits. He left with the bases loaded in the eighth. David Hurst came in and struck out the only batter he faced. Closer Jeff Williams entered and pitched the final inning and two-thirds -- allowing a sacrifice fly in the eighth -- to pick up his fifth save. Williams has now converted 17 consecutive save opportunities since June of last season.
Traverse City (11-10) never trailed after scoring two runs in the bottom of the second. John Alonso led off with a double to right. Patrick Perry followed with a single, advancing Alonso to third. Brian Lapin grounded out to score Alonso. Kyle Maunus then singled to bring in Perry.
After the Sliders scored a run in the third, the Bums got it back in the fourth on Alonso's first home run of the season. Maunus drove in Lapin for the Beach Bums' final run in the seventh.
Alonso, Perry and Maunus all had two hits for Traverse City.
The Beach Bums hit the road this week, starting a series against the Lake Erie Crushers tonight at All Pro Freight Stadium. Jason Kiley (2-2, 2.52) takes the hill for the Beach Bums.
