Beach Bums pick trio in league draft

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse City Beach Bums added three players to its spring training roster at today's Frontier League draft.

With the sixth overall pick, a slot obtained from Chillicothe as part of last season's trade involving Lance Koenig and J.T. Thomas, the Beach Bums selected right-hander Peter McEneaney.

In the second round of the draft, the Bums selected another pitcher with the 17th overall choice, righty William Jackel.

The Beach Bums final pick of the draft came in the third round. With the 29th overall choice, the Beach Bums selected first baseman Charlie Yarbrough, an LS-2.

A native of New York, New York, McEneaney pitched collegiately at the University of Rochester for four years. This season he had a 6-1 record to go with a 1.87 ERA in 10 appearances, nine of which were starts. McEneaney led the staff with 57 2/3 innings and posted 53 strikeouts.

Jackel was chosen in the 43rd round of the 2006 draft by the Florida Marlins out of Tallahassee Community College. He pitched with the Gulf Coast League Marlins in 2007, appearing in 15 games out of the bullpen with a record of 2-1 in 17 2/3 innings and struck out 15.

Jackel threw in the Florida Collegiate Summer League in 2006 and was tabbed as the fourth overall prospect.

Yarbrough spent two years in the Philadelphia Phillies organization following his college career. He was selected in the seventh round of the 2006 draft and recorded 242 at bats in 2007 with the Lakewood Blueclaws, hitting .215 and driving in 30 runs. Yarbrough hit .391 with 18 homers and 69 RBIs to lead Eastern Kentucky as a senior and was chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year.
