"Compared to what these guys have tone through for the country, this is nothing," said Tom Whilden from nearby while a group of demonstrators stood in the wind holding flags. "We have a choice to do this, they didn't." The pair of men, along with about a dozen others, stood for about three hours along the roadway showing their respect for veterans. Ceremonies across the region Monday recognized the sacrifices of veterans. A large ceremony was held Monday night at the Grand Traverse Area Veterans Memorial Park at 6 p.m., said Beau Vore, U.S. Air Force representative for Grand Traverse County. The event was organized by the Grand Traverse Area Veterans Coalition. Inside, read about changes at the American Legion Park, where the plans call for the veterans memorial to be rebuilt by 2014.
