Dying Birds-3

This photo provided by Florida Atlantic University shows a laboratory tank at Florida Atlantic University where scientists are taking measurements for an experiment to help trace the paths of partially submerged birds that were killed in the Great Lakes by Type E botulism. For more than a decade, scientists have struggled to figure out what's behind a rising number of Great Lakes waterfowl deaths from Type E botulism, a neuromuscular disease caused by eating contaminated fish. Government and university researchers are planning to monitor the drift patterns of bird carcasses in hopes of pinpointing where they became sick, which might be a first step toward a solution.
