Lighthouse opens

TRAVERSE CITY — Mission Point Lighthouse opens for the season on Friday, April 11.

The lighthouse is at the point of Old Mission Peninsula, 20500 Center Road. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday through Sunday through April and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily May through October. For details, visit www.missionpointlighthouse.com or call 223-7324.

Weekend of Giving

HONOR — Fresh Wind Christian Community will host its fifth annual Celebrate Spring Weekend of Giving.

The event raises money for Fresh Wind’s food pantry and resource ministry. Food donations will be accepted all weekend to fill the Fresh Wind’s trailer. Fresh Winds also is partnering with the Feinstein Foundation Challenge to earn a share of the $1 million the foundation donates to anti-hunger agencies nationwide.

The celebration starts Friday, April 11, with a preview of silent auction items and “Buy Now” sales of Easter baskets and auction items from 6-7 p.m. Karaoke and open mic entertainment starts at 7 p.m. Coffee, tea and desserts will be served and donations will be accepted.

On Saturday, April 12, from 1-6 p.m. the community can view and bid on more than 100 silent auction items and select from more than 80 Easter baskets to purchase. A chicken dinner also will be served.

The meal is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12 and $25 for families.

Take-outs will be available. There also will be crafts and activities for all ages.

Events Friday and Saturday are at the Fresh Wind’s Ministry Center, 9780 U.S. 31, next to the Cherry Bowl Drive-In. The weekend closes with a Palm Sunday service at 10 a.m. April 13 at Benzie Central High School’s auditorium on Homestead Road.

Chinese film series

TRAVERSE CITY — The mini Chinese Film Series continues Tuesday, April 15, with a screening of the 1987 film “The Last Emperor.”

The film was the winner of nine Academy Awards including Best Picture. It will be shown at 6 p.m. at the State Theatre, 233 E. Front St. Regular admission applies.
