Brown, Durand win Gran Travers races

TRAVERSE CITY — It was a winning weekend for Eli Brown.

The 40-year-old from Williamsburg followed his victory in the Vasa 50K freestyle race on Saturday with a first-place finish in the Grand Travers 16K classic race on Sunday.

Brown finished in a time of 48:28 to complete the race 11 seconds ahead of Andrew Nadler of Chicago. Ryan Harris of Grayling placed third (48:52) and Daniel Yankus of Walled Lake was fourth (49:05).

Fourteen-year-old Ian Durand of Interlochen took the Gran Travers 6K classic with a five-second victory over Clay Darling of Traverse City. Sean Brownell of Traverse City (22:17), Kyle Dotterrer of Traverse City (22:36) and Eivind Kragebakk of Traverse City (23:20) rounded out the top five.

Allison Crocker of Ottawa Hills, Ohio was the top female finisher in the 16K, taking eighth overall in 50:47. Erin Lipp of Traverse City was the top female finisher in the 6K. Lipp took 13th overall in 25:06.
