SUTTONS BAY — Mr. and Mrs. Mac E. Tennant of Suttons Bay observed their diamond wedding anniversary on Nov. 7, 2013. The couple met as pen pals through friends when Mr. Tennant was serving in Alaska with the U.S. Army.
The couple celebrated their anniversary with family in July in Lynden, Wash., at their granddaughter’s wedding and also with a month-long visit at their son Mark’s home in Lynden. The Tennants also took a motor trip to the Dakotas and the Upper Peninsula in September.
Mac E. Tennant and the former Marian Pennington were married on Nov. 7, 1953, at Tecumseh Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh, Mich. The Rev. George Walworth performed the ceremony.
Mr. Tennant was a farmer and also worked for the Tecumseh Products Co. for 441/2 years. He retired in October 1990. Mrs. Tennant was a registered nurse and trained at Henry Ford Hospital She worked at Bixby Hospital in Adrian and at a doctor’s office and is retired. The couple also formerly volunteered as Deerfield School mentors, with Hospice of Lenawee and with the American Cancer Society. They moved to the Grand Traverse area from Deerfield, Mich., in November 2009.
The couple’s children are Mark (Edith) Tennant of Lynden Wash., Barbara (Pat) Burguard of Northport, the Rev. David (Jemma) Tennant of Milford, Ohio, and Mary (David) Hovest of Lake Leelanau. They also have five granddaughters, two step-granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren.
