Film Fest Outtakes: 08/01/2012

- Fest Founder Michael Moore emailed supporters to encourage them to follow the festival on social media.

Moore told friends to track film happenings on Twitter and Facebook, where followers will be the first to hear of added screenings to sold-out films and special guest announcements. Moore wrote that instead of sending "mass emails" the festival will rely on the social media outlets.

"We know this may be hard for some of you who have sworn never to sign up for social media. Just as the end of 35mm film is upon us, so too is the position that 'I don't want to be on Facebook or Twitter' a thing of the past. The good news is you never have to use them other than for us! But for TCFF, you've got to come aboard the 21st century train," wrote Moore, an avid tweeter who uses the handle @MMFlint.

To get those updates follow the festival on Twitter @TCFF or search for and "like" Traverse City Film Festival on Facebook.

As of Tuesday around noon, the festival had 3,909 Twitter followers and 9,024 Facebook likes.

- "Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey," a film about Filipino singer and Journey frontman Arnel Pineda, was picked as the film selection for a special volunteer screening Monday at Lars Hockstad Auditorium. Not a volunteer? Don't despair. The film plays two more times this week.
