Booher downs Dunigan in 35th Senate

TRAVERSE CITY — Republican state Rep. Darwin Booher handily defeated Democrat Roger Dunigan in the 35th District state Senate race.

The district covers 11 counties: Leelanau, Benzie, Kalkaska, Manistee, Missaukee, Roscommon, Lake, Clare, Osceola, Mecosta and Wexford. Booher showed significant leads in many of those counties late Tuesday night.

Booher, of Evart, first was elected to the state House in 2004. Before that, he spent nearly 30 years as a township supervisor.

Dunigan, a native of Ionia and a former Roman Catholic priest, ran the community mental-health board in Leelanau County for several years and works part time as a consultant to area law firms.
