Film Festival outtakes: 08/01/2009

Zoltar, the wish-granter from "Big," will be at the Open Space before tonight's screening of the movie to field wishes.

Also before the movie, there will be a helicopter fly over for a photo. As the chopper hovers over the crowd, movie-goers will be asked to stand in letter outlines that read "TCFF."

Michael Moore, while going through a list of countries represented by visiting filmmakers during Friday's meeting of the Michigan Film Office advisory council, was gently reminded of yet another one by a person in the front row. "Oh yeah, Canada," Moore said. "My wife just reminded about Canada, where we almost had to live."

The "Winnebago Man" himself, Jack Rebney, was patched through on speaker phone for a Q-and-A with director Ben Steinbauer after the midnight screening at the Old Town Playhouse early Friday morning. In the words of Rebney himself, it was ... wait. We can't print that.

The weather held for Thursday night's Open Space movie, but the wags at the Record-Eagle had a headline ready in case there was a rainout: Bad "Hair" Day.

Suttons Bay, the new hotspot for celebrities? A Hilary Swank sighting last weekend was followed up Friday by a Larry Charles sighting. Granted, he's a board member of the film festival, which explains his presence in our region, but lunch at 45th Parallel must have been his getaway. He still wears orange Crocs.
