12:27 am: Lile wins; heavy turnout delays other GT results

FROM STAFF REPORTS

TRAVERSE CITY — East Bay Township Supervisor Glen Lile pulled out a win over challenger Gail Mason among the contested township races in Grand Traverse County.

Lile, a Republican, collected 3,295 votes to best Maison’s 2,592 votes in the unofficial totals from the Grand Traverse County clerk’s office.

Other township races were still too close to call late Tuesday as heavy voter turnouts in several townships delayed final voting results. In Green Lake Township, long-time incumbent Supervisor Paul Biondo held a 150-vote lead over Democrat challenger Tom Karas with some voting precincts still out, county Clerk Linda Coburn said.

In Long Lake Township, incumbent Treasurer Christina Allen ran without party affiliation and trailed Republican challenger Patricia Mehney by a 1,070 to 962 margin with the township’s absentee votes still being counted, Coburn said.

In Fife Lake Township, Republican supervisor candidate Fred Joles handily turned back Democrat candidate Linda Forwerck 609 to 515.
