Glass is Big Ten player of the week

Leland freshman helps Penn St. down ranked foes

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — It didn't take Alisha Glass long to make an impact with the Penn State University volleyball team.

Glass, a freshman setter from Leland, was named the Big Ten player of the week on Monday. She helped the No. 2 ranked Nittany Lions to a .327 hitting percentage in a pair of victories over top 15 teams last week in Austin, Texas.

Against No. 15 Missouri on Thursday, Glass dished out 44 assists while adding three kills, seven digs and five blocks.

The following night versus the No. 7 Longhorns, Glass had a career-high 63 assists and recorded eight kills and 16 digs. She also tied her career bests for hitting (.438) and blocks (seven).

As a team, the 8-0 Nittany Lions hit .339 as a team against Missouri and .320 in the five-game victory over Texas. Glass was named to the all-tournament team.

Glass is the third Penn State freshman to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors. She joins current sophomores Nicole Fawcett and Christa Harmotto, who both earned the award last year.

For the two weekend matches, Glass averaged 13.38 assists per game, 2.88 digs per game and 1.5 blocks per game.
