11/07/2006Five area players earn All-State honorsSuttons Bay's Hursey Coach of the YearEAST LANSING Suttons Bay held off Traverse City St. Francis for the Division 4 state golf title. The Norsemen also edged St. Francis for most All-State players, 4-2. Five area players were named first team All-State in the four divisions, the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association announced. Four of the first team players were in Division 4 where Suttons Bay senior Nate Kelly, St. Francis sophomore Andrew Walukonis, Harbor Springs senior Teddy Griffin and Inland Lakes sophomore Brent Vizina were honored. Petoskey freshman Joey Garber was first team all-state in Division 2. Honorable mention in Division 2 was Cheboygan junior Kyle Parsons. Among the honorable mention selections in Division 4 were senior Drew Palmer, junior David Tropf and sophomore Charlie Olson of Suttons Bay, as well as junior Mike Dendrinos of St. Francis. In addition to the honors for the players, Suttons Bay coach Todd Hursey was the Division 4 coach of the year. Charlevoix's Jim Glynn was a region coach of the year in Division 3 while St. Francis' Jim Hornyak and Onekama's Mary Jo Zadow were district coaches in Division 4. Traverse City West was an academic all-state team in Division 1 with a 3.685 team gpa.
