Fire burns 6 acres at GT Commons

TRAVERSE CITY — A grass fire sparked by a campfire burned about six acres in the woods behind the old state hospital buildings.

Firefighters worked to put out the fire Sunday.

Capt. Mike Brown of the Traverse City Fire Department said campers were in the Grand Traverse Commons area overnight camping in a place where it is not allowed.

He did not disclose the names of the campers who allegedly set the campfire, and said they would be ticketed.

No one was injured in the fire, Brown said.
