Marquette tops Stags, Central up next

KINGSLEY Marquette began its four-day stay in the Grand Traverse region with a season-opening 45-38 basketball win at Kingsley.
Marquette will play Traverse City Central on Wednesday and Traverse City West on Thursday.
Erin Powers led a balanced attack for the Redettes, scoring 12 points. Melissa LaPointe added 11 and Catherine Angeli 10.
Courtney Stocking netted 12 points and Brit Denter 10 for Kingsley.
Marquette led 20-19 at half.
Kalkaska 47
Houghton Lake 32
Caitlin Flohe's 21 points led Kalkaska to a season-opening 47-32 win over Houghton Lake.
The Blazers also received a diverse performance from Katie Krause, who had 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 blocks. Marissa Taylor chipped in 5 points, 5 assists and 4 steals and Kara Ponstein added 5 assists and 4 steals.
Molly Collins led Houghton Lake with 21 points.
Ellsworth 43
Bellaire 29
Anna Eggebrecht had 19 points and 10 rebounds as Ellsworth beat Bellaire, 43-29.
Courtney Howes added 16 points and six rebounds for the Lancers.
Molly Poel tossed in 11 points and Aubrey Hocking 8 for Bellaire.
Norse 9th in Okemos
Nate Kelly and Josh Schaub each shot a 79 as Suttons Bay finished ninth in the 19-team Okemos Invitational.
Grand Blanc won the tournament with a 304 on the Walnut Hills course. The Norsemen fired a 320. Drew Palmer and Charlie Olson each carded an 81 for Suttons Bay.
Gaylord 3
TC Central 2
Jeff Cook scored the game-winner on a chip shot from 30 yards out as Gaylord opened the Big North Conference slate with a 3-2 win over Traverse City Central.
The game was tied 2-2 at halftime, as Gaylord opened the scoring on a Casey Johnson penalty kick 20 minutes into the game and TC Central responded 30 seconds later with a Mike Waisanen goal off a Shane Harvey assist.
The Trojans took the lead on a Brian Grost penalty kick, but the Blue Devils answered with a Robert Lampert goal.
TC Central (1-1) lost goaltender Dane Macdonell with a mild concussion for much fo the game, and Ted Groenvelt was taken off the forward line to play in net.
Scott Horrigan and Jake Dombrowski split time in goal for the Blue Devils (1-1, 1-0 BNC).
Boyne City 7
East Jordan 0
Oli Ryan scored two goals as Boyne City beat East Jordan 7-0.
Beau Kroondyk, Phillip Conklin, Matt Keiser, Nathan Clubine and Michael Cortright also scored for the Ramblers.
TC Christian 2
Suttons Bay 0
Brian Wierenga and Jason Send netted goals as Traverse City Christian blanked Suttons Bay 2-0 in a Cherryland Conference match.
Wierenga's scored his unassisted goal in the first half. Send notched his off a head flick from Layton Boeve in the second half.
Eric Pardini was in goal for Christian, now 2-1.
Northport 6
Buckley 1
Cody Brown and Ryan Blessing each had a hat trick as Northport opened Cherryland Conference action with a 6-1 victory over Buckley.
Brown added two assists and Blessing one, while Nathan Sherrer had 2 assists for the Wildcats (3-1, 1-0 Cherryland).
Drew Mitchell made 8 saves in goal for Northport. Justin Weaver scored Buckley's goal.
TC Central JV 5
Gaylord JV 1
Luca D'Arsie scored 3 goals as the TC Central Gold JV topped Gaylord 5-1.
Sebastian Stoldt had 2 goals and an assist and Sarmed Hassan had 2 assists as the three exchange students paced the Trojan (2-0) attack.
A.J. Moehn added a goal and Michael Burdos made 4 saves in net.
Peter Aune scored off a Dominic Nash assist for the Blue Devils' (0-2) tally.
Grayling 2
Elk Rapids 0
Anders Larson was in on both goals as Grayling topped Elk Rapids 2-0 in Lake Michigan Conference play.
Larson had a goal and an assist and goaltender Chris Wells stopped all 13 shots he faced for the shutout.
Colin Hamlin scored a goal and Tony Florival added an assist for the Vikings (1-2).
The Elks use their junior varsity team for LMC games this year.
