KINGSLEY — Kasi Hency's track career is headed down under — and around the corner.

Hency, a senior at Kingsley High School who recently accepted a partial scholarship to run track at Cornerstone University this fall, has been invited to participate in the Down Under International Games in Australia in July.

Hency, 17, was nominated by a coach in northern Michigan, although she wasn't told which one.

"It's going to be amazing," Hency said Friday. "I love running, and to run in a country that beautiful is going to great."

Hency, a hurdler and sprinter, ran a regional time of 49.0 in the 300-meters hurdles to advance to the Division 3 state meet last spring. An injury affected her state performance.

Hency is scheduled to fly to Hawaii on July 1. She will spend several days there before flying to Australia for the games, which last about a week.

Hency is seeking contributions for her trip. For every $2 donated, the donor will receive a ticket which can be entered into a drawing for two free trips to Australia. Checks should be made payable to: International Sports Specialists and mailed to Hency at 796 W. M-113, Kingsley, Mich. 49649.
