Wounded Indian sharpshooters rest under a tree in May 1864 near Fredricksburg, Va., where the Battle of the Wilderness was fought May 5-7 that year. It is unknown if they are from the Michigan 1st Sharpshooters all-Indian Co. K, but the state-s sharpshooter regiment served in the Fredricksburg battles.
